What I Do - HM Marketing
Sacramento, CA  ·  HM Marketing

You Can Get Paid for
What You're Already Good At.

This is what I built instead of a 9-to-5. I'm looking for the right people to work with me.

In 2015, I started HM Marketing with one goal: build a life on my terms. I work from anywhere, keep my days focused, and built a business around things I'm good at - web design, digital marketing, and helping local businesses grow. Along the way, I found that the best people to work with aren't the ones sending resumes. They're the ones sitting right in front of me. If you have a skill, a passion, or just the drive to build something - there's a place for you here.

Wait - Is This a Job?

Kind of. But better. Here's the quick version.

Two ways to work. Here's the difference:
W-2 Employee
  • Someone else sets your hours
  • Someone else sets your pay
  • You ask for a raise (and wait)
  • Your income has a ceiling
  • Miss work = miss pay
  • Clock in. Clock out. Repeat.
1099 Contractor  ✦
  • You set your own hours
  • You set your own rate
  • You grow by landing clients
  • Your income has no ceiling
  • Flexibility is built in
  • You work when it works for you

When you work with HM Marketing, you're a 1099 contractor. We work together on clients. You invoice. I pay. You're not my employee - you're your own business owner. That means you're free in a way a regular job will never make you.

Real People, Real Work

People Doing It Right Now

Three real people. Three different lives. All working on their own terms.

Elisa Bartlett
Recent Sac State grad. Pays her own rent. Works from anywhere.
Elisa Bartlett
Social Media Manager & Sales Contractor

Elisa graduated from Sacramento State and figured out pretty quickly that a standard entry-level job wasn't going to give her the life she wanted. She manages social media for local businesses, connects new clients with HM Marketing, and earns enough to cover her bills and build savings - on her own schedule. She didn't wait for the right job to appear. She built her own.

Janae Smith
Wife. Mom of two. Builds income around her family - not the other way around.
Janae Smith
Social Media Manager & Co-Venture Partner

Janae has two kids, a full life, and a need for work that could flex with all of it. She manages social media for an organization she genuinely loves - creating content, growing audiences, and building something that actually means something to her. On top of that, she and Greg are co-building a venture together, turning a shared passion into a real revenue stream. The income is real. So is the freedom.

Mom of two. Works on her terms. Doesn't answer to anyone's schedule.
Gabbi Chudzinski
Social Media Manager

Gabbi's life is full - two kids, a husband who works, and a schedule that needs to flex on a daily basis. What she found with HM Marketing is work that fits around that life instead of competing with it. She manages social media for local businesses, builds their online presence, and earns real income on her own terms. For Gabbi, this isn't a side hustle. It's just how she works.

What Starting a Business Actually Looks Like

It's simpler than it sounds. Here's the whole thing.

Being a 1099 contractor means you're self-employed - which means you're technically your own business. That sounds like a big deal. It's not. You don't need an LLC, a lawyer, or a fancy office. You need a name, a bank account, and one client. Here's exactly how to do all three, tailored for the Sacramento area.
1

Choose a Name and File Your DBA

A DBA (Doing Business As) - also called a Fictitious Business Name - lets you operate under a business name without formally incorporating. It's the fastest, cheapest way to make it official. Pick something that reflects what you do, file with your county, and you're in business. Costs about $25-40 and takes a few days.

2

Open a Free Business Bank Account

Keep your business money separate from day one. It makes taxes easier, looks more professional, and protects you. Novo is a free business checking account built for freelancers and small businesses - takes about 10 minutes to open online.

3

Land Your First Client

Your first client is always someone in your world - someone who knows you, trusts you, or is connected through your community. You don't need a website or a logo yet. You need one person who says yes. Talk to Greg - connecting the right people is literally what HM Marketing does.

Optional but smart
